Blessed

Excerpt from “Accelerator”, Accelerated Christian Education, Oct-Nov 2015, pg 11.

Blessed is defined as, “radiating the joy of the Lord in life as a result of daily delighting in and meditating on God’s word.”
The word blessed, with its various forms, appears some 500 times in the Bible. This is not an isolated character trait. God is blessed, and He wants to bless us so we can be a blessing to others. I Peter 1:3 reads, “Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Ephesians 1:3 records, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly placed in Christ.” II Corinthians 1:3 says, “Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort.”
God told Abraham, “And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: in in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:3. Indeed, God is blessed, and He wants to bless His children so they can be a blessing to others. God gives directions on HOW we can be blessed of God

Endure Temptation
The New Testament Scripture for Blessed is James 1:12. “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.” This “temptation” means to test, to try, or to prove. God allows testing to come into our lives to burn out impurities and eliminate negative thoughts that displease Him so we can be more effective in serving Him and have His blessing.

Stay Away From Bad Influences
The Old Testament scripture for blessed is Psalm 1:1-2. Verse 1 tells us, “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.” God tells us that in order to be blessed of God we need to stay away from bad influences. Do not walk, stand, or sit with those who bring negative influences into our lives and cause us to lose the blessings of God.

Stay In the Word
Endure temptation, stay away from bad influences, and stay in the Word. Psalm 1:2-3 encourages, “But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” However, before we can delight in and meditate on God’s Word, we must first receive it. Revelation 1:3 tells us, “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein….” We must read, hear, delight in, and meditate upon God’s Word so we can radiate the joy of the Lord in our lives and be blessed of God.
